Diving with bull sharks

A very special encounter - Bull sharks

Starting from end of November to February the bull sharks come to closer to the coast line of Riviera Maya.

They are big, strong and heavy with round, short snout and little dark eyes. The first fin on the back is big and nearly rectangular with 90 degree radius, the second fin is much much smaller. Bull sharks have a pale dark gray color and a white belly. The young bull sharks have black tips at the end of their fins. The male sharks can get big like 225 cm, female can get a little bigger, about 240 cm. Bull sharks prefer the warm, tropical waters. in the winter months the Caribbean sea gets a little colder and the sharks move closer to the warmer coasts.

It is an incredible feeling. The first encounter under water with these animals is everything. Scaring, breathtaking, fantastic, unforgettable. To see these amazing animal in the open nature is truly something special.

Of course there is no guarantee that you will see the bull sharks every time. You can find them in more shallow places like Jardines as much as in the deeper dives. 

But please, do not forget!!!

For sure the bull sharks are belonging to the group of the dangerous sharks. Although there are no reported shark attacks at the Riviera Maya with swimmers, snorkelers or divers involved. In 2006 there were 62 shark attacks all over the world, 4 of the attacked persons died. Every year there are much more people dying from down falling coconuts, there were about 150 people reported dead after hit by a coconut in 2006.
